Holy Week in Seville is a celebration that is experienced intensely in the streets. The processions begin in the afternoon and end at dawn, filling the city with religious images, passion and the smell of incense. An art to live and enjoy! Seville dresses in its best clothes: not only the religious tapestries on the balconies of the historic center, but all its inhabitants dress elegantly as a sign of respect for the Passion of Christ. During Holy Week, the city is divided into those who physically give life to the processions and those who admire and accompany them on the street: an elegant and sovereignly sober presence, which definitely contributes to creating an intense and pleasant atmosphere.
Since this is a tradition linked to Easter, the dates change every year. The dates of Holy Week 2025 include the period from April 13 to 21, both inclusive.
Most Sevillians, who know the ins and outs of the narrow streets of the historic center, spend their days and nights going from one procession to another, to be able to admire the different steps (the cross and the canopy), greet a Nazarene friend ( They are those who physically form the procession, with the typical hat called capirote) of each Brotherhood; Meanwhile, they meet other friends with whom they stop to have a snack and/or a drink, multiplying in a striking way the energy of the city at the same time within a very contained atmosphere, in the absence of shouting and exaggerated behavior typical of other popular events.
